To establish a regular channel for passengers to show their appreciation, and to give commendation to taxi drivers who have good conduct and deliver quality service to taxi passengers, Transport Department and the Quality Taxi Services Steering Committee (QTSSC) launched the "Taxi Driver Commendation Scheme" in July this year. The launching ceremony was held on 9th July 2001. The officiating guests included Dr. Dorothy Chan JP, Acting Commissioner for Transport, and Mr. Jeffrey Lam JP, Chairman of the Quality Taxi Services Steering Committee. Representatives from most of the 16 specified participating organizations and societies and taxi associations also attended the launching ceremony.

          Transport Department and the QTSSC would like to encourage taxi drivers to provide passengers with quality service and to raise the standards of taxi services in Hong Kong. The 16 specified participating organizations and societies include Hong Kong Police Force, Transport Complaints Unit of Transport Advisory Committee, the Consumer Council, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Airport Authority Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, Environmental Advisory Service, Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth, Rehabilitation Alliance Hong Kong, Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power, the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation, Fu Hong Society, the Hong Kong Society for the Blind, Hong Kong Blind Union, the Hong Kong Society for the Deaf and New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association.

          Taxi passengers who wish to make a nomination should return the nomination form together with taxi receipt, if any, to Transport Department through the above 16 participating organizations and societies. Nomination forms are available at the offices of the above 16 participating organizations and societies, and can also be downloaded from Transport Department's website at http://www.td.gov.hk.

          Transport Department will process the nominations upon receipt. With the consent of the nominees, Transport Department will assess the driving, commendation and complaint records of the nominees in the past three years. Subject to satisfactory results of assessment, recommendation will be submitted to the QTSSC for a decision for commendation. All taxi drivers receiving commendation will be awarded with a Quality Taxi Driver Identify Card, a Quality Taxi Driver Certificate and a souvenir.
